Bill:        Today is monday, Yesterday was Sunday, so today is Monday.   

John:     And the month? What month is this? 

Bill:        This is Tanuary.Last month was December, so this month is January  

John:     Where were you last month?

Bill:        Last month? Last month was December? I was here last month.

John:     Weren't you in New York in December?

Bill:        No, I wasn't. I was in New York three monghs ago. 

John:     Were you in New Yorkfor several days? 

Bill:        Yes, I was. ? I was in New York for eight days.

John:     Your friend was in New York too, wasn't he?

Bill:        Yes, he was. He was in New York for five days.

Martha:     Were you in school last month, Helen?

Helen:        What month was last month? was it Hanuary?

Martha:     Yes, it was. It was January. were you in school in January?

Helen:        No, I wasn't. It was January. Were you in school in January? 

Martha:     Where were you? Were you in Washington, D. C. ?

Helen:        Yes, I was. I was in Washington for several weeks. 

Martha:     Were were you in December? Were you in Washington, too?

Helen:        No, I wasn't. I was here in December. I was in school. 

Martha:     You were in class yesterday morning, weren't you?

Helen:        No, I wasn't. I wasn't well yesterday.

Martha:     Were you in the hospital yesterday?

Helen:        No, I wasn't. I wasn't in the hospital yesterday.

Fred:   Good afternoon, Paul. How are you this afternoon?

Paul:    Just fine, thanks. And how are you?

Fred:   I’m fine, thanks. What day is today, Paul?

Paul:    Today is Thursday. 

Fred:   You weren’t here last week, were you?

Paul:    No, I wasn’t. I was in the hospital last week.

Fred:   Are you well now?

Paul:   Oh yes. I’m well now. I wasn’t well last week. 

Fred:   Were you in the hospital for several days?

Paul:   Yes, I was. I was there for six days.

Fred:  Were you in the hospital last March, too?

Paul:   Yes, I was. I was in the hospital in March and in July.

Fred:   I’m glad you’re well now, Paul.

Paul:   Thank you. I’m very well now.

Harry:    Were you in class on Tuesday?

Paul:       No, I wasn’t. I was in class on Monday, but not on Tuesday. 

Harry:     Were you in class on Wednesday?

Paul:      Yes, I was. I was in class on Wednesday, but not on Tuesday. 

Harry:    You weren’t in class on Friday, were you?

Paul:      No, I wasn’t. I wasn’t in class on Thursday or Friday.

Harry:    Were you in class in January?

Paul:      No, I wasn’t. I was in class in December, but not in January.

Harry:    You weren’t in class in September, were you?

Paul:      No, I wasn’t. I was in class in October, but not in September.

Harry:    Where were you last Saturday?

Paul:      In New York. Last Saturday I was in New York.

Mr. Brown:    What day is today, Dr. Rice?

Dr. Rice:        Today is Monday. This is January.

Mr. Brown:    Is this your briefcase, Dr. Rice?

Dr. Rice:        No, it isn’t. Maybe it’s Dr. Baker’s briefcase.

Mr. Brown:    Were is the Dr. Baker? Do you know?

Dr. Rice:        Dr. Baker is in the hospital. He’s not very well.

Mr. Brown:    Was Dr. Baker in the hospital last week, too?

Dr. Rice:        No, he wasn’t. He was very well last week.

Mr. Brown:    You were in Washington, D. C. for several days, weren’t you?

Dr. Rice:        Yes. I was. I was in Washington in December.

Mr. Brown:    Where were you in November?

Dr. Rice:        I was here in November. That was two months ago.

Mr. Brown:    Wasn’t your friend Harry Long here last week?

Dr. Rice:        Yes, he was. He was here for three days last week.
